Senior Engineering Manager, Product

Full Time

to help build and scale the sales engine for our growing portfolio of education products. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial seller who wants to do more than inherit a territory and execute an established playbook—you’ll help create the playbook.

You’ll be on the front lines of determining how we win: identifying our highest-potential customers, building pipeline, refining our positioning and messaging, closing early customers, and translating what we learn into a repeatable go-to-market motion. You’ll work closely with leaders across Sales, Product, Marketing, and Strategy, with your insights directly influencing how we evolve our products and go-to-market approach.

The ideal candidate combines the instincts and discipline of an exceptional seller with the curiosity, resourcefulness, and ownership mentality of a builder. You thrive in ambiguity, learn quickly, are energized by creating something from the ground up, and want to look back and say,

Partner closely with leadership to develop and continuously refine our go-to-market motion for education products, including target customers, buyer personas, positioning, messaging, qualification, and sales process.

Lead opportunities from initial prospecting and discovery through demonstration, proposal, negotiation, and close, building trusted relationships with education leaders and key decision-makers along the way.

Proactively identify and engage high-potential customers through thoughtful outbound prospecting, relationships, referrals, events, and creative experimentation. Determine which approaches generate repeatable results and turn those learnings into scalable practices.

Become an expert on our customers and market.

Develop a deep understanding of education leaders, their challenges, buying processes, and priorities. Identify patterns across customer conversations to sharpen our understanding of where we win and why.

Serve as a critical voice of the market, bringing structured insights from prospects, customers, wins, losses, and objections back to Product, Marketing, and leadership to influence our roadmap and go-to-market strategy.

Establish a high bar for sales excellence and turn early learnings into the processes, messaging, collateral, and playbooks that will enable future sellers to ramp quickly and successfully.

You have experience creating pipeline, developing new markets or segments, launching new products, or helping establish a sales motion where a mature playbook did not yet exist.

You are comfortable prospecting and have demonstrated the ability to generate meaningful opportunities without relying exclusively on inbound demand or SDR support.

Thrived in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

You are highly resourceful, learn quickly, seek feedback, test new approaches, and take ownership for results rather than waiting for perfect information or infrastructure.

Demonstrated exceptional discovery and communication skills.

You can uncover complex customer problems, synthesize what you're hearing, articulate a compelling value proposition, and establish credibility with senior leaders.

Turned customer conversations into insights.

You naturally identify patterns across prospects and deals and can translate those learnings into recommendations for sales strategy, positioning, product, and the broader business.

Experience selling into education is valuable, but

a builder mentality, exceptional sales fundamentals, learning agility, and a demonstrated ability to create something from the ground up are most important for success in this role.

Brightwheel is seeking a Founding Account Executive for its Education Products to build and scale the sales engine. The role involves owning the full sales cycle, developing a repeatable go-to-market motion, and collaborating with Product and Marketing teams. This position requires an entrepreneurial seller with a builder mentality to establish the initial sales playbook.

Founding Account Executive - Education Products

You are an AI-native product leader and builder who combines world-class product taste, deep customer empathy, and high standards with the drive to start something new. You create clarity in ambiguous spaces, turn a blank page into a real business, and lead by example in how modern products get built. You care deeply about the experience you put in front of families and educators, and you move with the urgency and ownership of a founder.

You will succeed in this role if you are:

Focused on customer and business impact. You care about creating real value for families and educators, and about proving a business that can grow into something meaningful for brightwheel.

A practitioner-builder. You do not lead from a distance. You use AI and modern tooling in your own work to build, prototype, and learn, and to show what great looks like.

brightwheel sits at the center of early education, trusted by tens of thousands of schools and millions of families. That trust, our distribution, and a profitable core are a foundation most new ventures never get to start with. The opportunity now is to build what comes next: new products alongside our core platform, new markets and customer segments, and entirely new businesses that serve families and educators in ways we have not reached yet.

You will lead that work. You will take new ventures from the first idea to product-market fit and beyond, building with your own hands and with AI, and proving both the product and the business behind it.

Start and own new ventures end to end, from the first idea to product-market fit and into scale.

Discover what customers truly need, build the first version, and get it in front of real people quickly.

Prove the business behind each bet: the value to customers, the model, and the economics that make it worth growing.

Build hands-on, using AI and modern tooling to prototype, learn, and raise what a small, focused team can accomplish.

Work directly with our CEO and executive team, set the vision and drive outcomes visible at the Board level.

Recruit, inspire, and grow the team around the ventures that take off.

We are open to a variety of backgrounds, but qualified candidates usually bring:

A record of building products customers love. You have the product taste and judgment to know what to build and what to leave out, and the customer empathy to find real needs before the data exists.

Experience taking something from 0 to 1. You have started or built something new, ideally to real traction, and ideally as a founder or early builder who wore every hat.

Ownership of the whole business. You have carried the value, pricing, and economics that turn an idea into something worth scaling.

Applied AI in your own work. You use AI and modern tooling to build and ship faster, and to go deeper across disciplines.

Communication and presence. You can set a vision, align an executive team and board, and inspire the builders who join you.

The candidates who will thrive in this role go beyond strong product management:

You are a multidisciplinary builder. You move across product, design, engineering, and data, and you use AI to go deeper in each.

You thrive in ambiguity. You make confident calls when there is no playbook and no data, and you follow the data the moment it exists.

You think like an owner of the whole business, from the customer problem to the path to revenue, and you bring an executive team and a board along with a clear, compelling vision.

Brightwheel is seeking a Founding Head of Product for New Ventures to lead the creation of new products and businesses from 0 to 1. The role involves leveraging AI and modern tooling to prototype, discover customer needs, and achieve product-market fit. The ideal candidate is an AI-native builder with a strong record of ownership and executive presence.

Principal Product Manager

Founding Head of Product, New Ventures

You are a Senior Software Engineer who is both AI-native and product-minded. You love taking an ambiguous customer problem, turning it into a clear plan, and shipping a real end-to-end experience that moves a meaningful outcome. You care about craft and trust in what you ship, and you leave behind reusable building blocks so the next team can move even faster.

You care about helping preschools and childcare centers stay full, save time, and serve families better — not just about shipping “an AI feature.” You focus on measurable user and business impact.

You treat AI as part of your toolchain: you rely on modern AI coding assistants and lightweight automation or orchestration tools to move dramatically faster, and you know when AI adds real leverage versus when a simpler approach is sufficient.

You don’t wait for perfect requirements — you validate hypotheses with prototypes, talk to customers and internal teams, define success metrics, and use working software to align others and drive decisions.

You are comfortable designing data models and APIs, implementing backend logic, and building the front-end experiences users interact with — while also creating shared services and patterns that other teams can reuse.

You understand hallucinations, safety, and evaluation, and you design data flows, UX, and guardrails around those constraints rather than ignoring them.

You handle sensitive school, educator, and family data with care and instinctively look for secure designs and least-privilege access patterns.

In this role, you’ll own AI-powered improvements in core brightwheel workflows end-to-end, from opportunity sizing to launch to iteration. You’ll ship experiences that make administrators and teachers faster and more effective, while creating shared patterns and infrastructure that enable the broader engineering team to build safely and consistently.

Design and build cross-cutting AI services

(such as retrieval, context, evaluation, and guardrails) that power multiple product areas like classroom workflows, billing, and family communication.

as a hybrid PM+Eng+Data builder: talk to customers and internal teams, define success metrics, design workflows and user experiences, shape data and evaluation plans, and ship iterative releases from prototype to reliable, scalable production.

Create shared abstractions and tooling for AI

 — including common prompt and tool patterns, logging and monitoring, and reusable components — so other engineers can build on a consistent foundation.

so AI can safely stitch together longitudinal signals across product, billing, support, and operations, and recommend what should happen next — not just report what happened.

Lead by example in AI-augmented engineering,

using AI to multiply your own speed, mentoring L2/L3 engineers, and raising the bar for how we design, ship, and operate AI-powered features.

We are open to a variety of backgrounds, but you likely bring:

2+ years of professional software engineering experience

, with clear ownership of medium-to-large production systems from problem statement and design doc through launch and iteration.

A proven track record of shipping AI-powered products to production

, with concrete examples where LLMs meaningfully improved metrics like engagement, time saved, satisfaction, or retention.

Hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs) in real applications

, including prompt and tool design, retrieval-style patterns (such as RAG), and evaluation and monitoring in production.

(e.g., data structures, algorithms, and systems design) and a generalist mindset, comfortable moving between backend, data, and UX to get the job done.

in at least one modern web stack (such as Ruby on Rails, Python, Go, or Node), plus confidence with relational databases and larger datasets, from data modeling to performant queries and analytics.

Experience building modern web front-ends

, ideally with React or a similar component-based framework.

Formal training in computer science (4-year CS degree or equivalent depth in core CS topics).

A portfolio of personal AI projects, open-source work, or writing that shows how you think about applied AI in real-world settings.

Background in vertical SaaS, ecommerce, or other operations-heavy domains.

Experience designing shared platforms or frameworks (for example, internal SDKs, evaluation services, or experimentation tooling) adopted by multiple teams.

A track record of raising the bar for quality and operations: writing secure, testable, maintainable code; automating and simplifying dev/test/ops workflows; writing and reviewing design docs; mentoring other engineers; and contributing to hiring through interviews and feedback.

Data: PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS, Redis, and event and analytics pipelines

Frontend: React with TypeScript and Emotion

Mobile: Native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin with Jetpack Compose)

Cloud & Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes on Amazon EKS, GitHub Actions and FluxCD for CI/CD, and AWS services such as S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and SNS

AI & Automation: AWS Bedrock and other hosted large language models, vector search, orchestration and agent frameworks, and modern AI coding tools like Cursor
