The all-in-one platform for lightning-fast payments.

Astra provides the infrastructure for moving money instantly and securely. Astra’s proprietary, vertically integrated platform allows developers to easily embed real-time payments into their products.

Astra

Equity / Stock Options

Astra is building mission-critical infrastructure for moving money at scale. Our platform processes billions in annual transaction volume with 99.9%+ uptime, powering real-time transfers, bank debits, card disbursements, and complex financial compliance systems. We provide APIs and automation tools that enable businesses to move money programmatically while maintaining strict regulatory requirements.

We're looking for a Product Manager to drive the evolution of Astra's platform layer – the APIs, developer experience, control plane, and foundational infrastructure products that sit above the rails and make Astra the Payments Cloud rather than just a payments gateway. This is an IC role with a broad scope: you'll help shape the architecture of how customers interact with Astra, how they configure and extend the platform, and how Astra scales to serve increasingly sophisticated builders.

You'll work directly with the Leadership Team and other Product Team members, and partner deeply with engineering, solutions, and go-to-market. The right person thinks like a platform architect, writes like an API designer, and ships like someone who has felt the consequences of a bad developer experience at 2am.

Astra's core API platform: authentication, versioning, pagination, rate limiting, error taxonomy, and the developer contracts that customers build on

The control plane product: configuration surfaces, rule engines, programmable routing logic, and the levers customers use to customize money movement behavior

Webhook and event architecture: delivery guarantees, retry logic, event schema design, and the observability customers need to build reliable integrations

Developer experience: documentation quality, SDK surface, sandbox fidelity, onboarding flows, and the time-to-first-transaction metric

Platform extensibility: how customers compose Astra's primitives – triggers, conditions, actions – to build complex payment workflows without custom engineering

Platform reliability and SLA products: how Astra communicates uptime, exposes status, and gives customers visibility into degradation

Long-term platform strategy: how Astra evolves from a multi-rail API into a programmable payments infrastructure layer, including agentic payment use cases

Define and maintain Astra's API contract philosophy – versioning strategy, backwards compatibility standards, deprecation policies, and schema design principles

Write detailed platform specs that engineering can ship from: precise, edge-case-aware, and grounded in how real customers build

Shape the platform roadmap – balancing foundational investments (auth, observability, extensibility) against customer-facing features and reliability work

Conduct technical discovery with Astra's most sophisticated customers to identify platform gaps and extensibility needs

Partner with engineering to review API design, maintain developer ergonomics standards, and hold the bar on platform quality

Work with solutions and implementation teams to understand where customers get stuck, break, or build workarounds – and translate that into platform requirements

Drive the developer experience roadmap in partnership with docs, solutions engineering, and DevRel functions as they mature

Represent platform strategy in customer conversations, partnership discussions, and technical due diligence processes

6+ years of product management experience, with at least 3 years building developer-facing platform or API products at a technical infrastructure company

Deep expertise in API design – REST, webhooks, event-driven architecture – and strong opinions about what makes a platform great to build on

Experience owning a platform roadmap across authentication, configuration, extensibility, and observability layers

Strong understanding of how infrastructure companies create lock-in through developer experience, not just features

Comfort reasoning about systems-level tradeoffs: latency vs. consistency, configurability vs. complexity, generality vs. opinionation

Track record of operating as a principal-level IC – setting direction, influencing without authority, and driving outcomes across engineering and go-to-market

Exceptional written communication; you can produce a platform spec that is simultaneously a product document and a technical contract

Payments context is a plus, not a requirement – but intellectual curiosity about how money moves is required

Ability and willingness to travel up to ~15% annually

Experience building platform products at a BaaS, payments infrastructure, or developer tools company

Familiarity with the control plane / data plane architecture pattern as applied to developer platforms

Background in workflow or rules-engine product design – if-this-then-that style programmability at the infrastructure layer

Exposure to agentic AI use cases and how AI-native systems impose new requirements on payment infrastructure (context, controls, micropayment patterns)

You'll shape the platform architecture of a company that has real ambitions to be category-defining infrastructure – the Snowflake of payments

You'll work directly with the founding team and have a significant influence on product and engineering culture

Astra is profitable at Series A – the growth trajectory is funded, not a bet on future capital raises

The platform problems here are genuinely hard: multi-rail orchestration, programmable money movement, agentic payment primitives – this is not a CRUD application

Competitive compensation with equity in a growing fintech company.

Remote-first culture with flexible working arrangements

Small team, big impact — your work directly supports Astra’s ability to scale responsibly

Professional growth opportunities in compliance and risk management

Mission-driven — build infrastructure that powers financial innovation while meeting the highest regulatory standards

Astra is a remote-first company hiring only within the U.S. We value thoughtful collaboration, clarity, and initiative. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.

Product Manager, Platform

Full Time

Flexible Working Hours

Professional Development

Astra is the instant payments API powering money movement for fintech, banking, and marketplace products. Every transaction that runs through our systems is real money moving in real time, and the infrastructure underneath our product is what lets our engineering team ship quickly without breaking the systems that depend on it. As a Platform Engineer at Astra, you'll build and own core infrastructure and tooling: Terraform, CI/CD, environment provisioning, and the abstractions engineers rely on to ship and run their own code. You'll work hands-on across infrastructure-as-code, deploy tooling, and observability, partnering directly with product engineers rather than sitting behind a large platform org with layers of process. This role suits someone who's energized by building leverage for other engineers, comfortable owning meaningful infrastructure surface area, and motivated by the stakes of doing this well in a regulated, real-money environment.

Own pieces of core platform infrastructure, including the Terraform migration (VPC, IAM, networking), CI/CD pipelines, and environment provisioning, as part of a growing infrastructure team

Build and maintain the tooling and abstractions that let product engineers ship and run their own code without solving infrastructure problems from scratch

Advance our observability foundation, including remaining service instrumentation and building out our metrics collection pipeline

Standardize monitoring and alerting, including business and financial operations metrics and synthetic monitoring

Harden CI/CD pipelines, including secrets migration and building self-service deployment tooling

Support GCP infrastructure work as our platform scales, including dead-letter queue handling and other reliability pieces of our messaging system

Help build out compliance remediation tooling, local dev/onboarding tooling, GCP cost visibility, and infra architecture documentation as these needs are validated

Operate independently on production infrastructure changes, since most of this work is scoped execution rather than architecture-setting

5+ years in a platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or backend engineering role with significant infrastructure ownership

Experience building or significantly maturing internal developer tooling, CI/CD systems, or service platforms, rather than only operating within an already-mature setup

Experience operating in a startup or small-team environment where you own meaningful infrastructure surface area and there isn't always a playbook

Direct experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure also relevant) in production, including infrastructure-as-code

Track record of partnering closely with product engineering teams to unblock their work, not just maintaining infrastructure in isolation

Comfort operating independently on production infra (Terraform, IAM, CI/CD) without heavy review

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi)

Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, or similar) and building CI/CD pipelines from the ground up

Solid backend engineering skills in at least one production language (e.g., Go, Python, TypeScript/Node) for building internal services and tooling

Experience designing and maintaining internal APIs and service abstractions used by other engineers

Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Datadog, Grafana/Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) and how platform decisions affect reliability and debuggability

Understanding of secrets management, access control, and secure-by-default infrastructure patterns

Prior experience in fintech, payments, banking-as-a-service, or another regulated industry where infrastructure decisions carry real financial or compliance consequences

Experience building platform tooling that supports compliance requirements (e.g., audit logging, data retention, access controls) alongside developer velocity

Experience with GCP specifically, and with cross-cloud (GCP/AWS) infrastructure work

Familiarity with database platform work (provisioning, migrations tooling, backup/replication strategy) in addition to application infrastructure

Experience scaling internal platforms through a period of rapid engineering team or transaction growth

Every engineer at Astra ships faster or slower based on the platform underneath them, and this role adds capacity to a growing team

You'll have direct influence over how we execute against a real, scoped backlog, without layers of process standing between you and the outcome

This role enables Terraform migrations, CI/CD hardening, and observability work to move in parallel and helps our internal tooling as our platform scales

Learning & Development Budget

Astra is on a mission to make payments radically better – faster, more secure, and worthy of the products built on top of them. We’re an instant-payments platform powering developers and product teams across banking, BaaS, payroll, lending, crypto, and other financial-services use cases.

As Astra grows, we’re looking for a Head of Compliance to lead and scale our enterprise compliance program across financial crimes, payments compliance, privacy, security assurance, and governance.

This leader will inherit an established program and team and will be responsible for strengthening its strategy, operating model, controls, and oversight as Astra’s products, payment flows, partnerships, and compliance obligations evolve. The Head of Compliance will serve as Astra’s designated BSA Compliance Officer and oversee the company’s BSA/AML, KYC/KYB, sanctions, payment-network, privacy, SOC 2, PCI DSS, and broader compliance-risk programs.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic judgment and operational depth. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Legal, Operations, executive leadership, and Astra’s bank partners to translate complex requirements into practical, scalable controls that support responsible growth.

Reporting to the COO, the Head of Compliance will serve as Astra’s senior compliance leader and a key advisor to executive leadership and the Board.

Lead Astra's Enterprise Compliance Program

Set the strategy for Astra’s enterprise compliance program and continuously improve its policies, procedures, risk assessments, controls, testing, training, and reporting.

Serve as Astra’s designated BSA/AML Compliance Officer, overseeing KYC/KYB, customer due diligence, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, alert and case management, and financial-crimes risk.

Provide clear reporting to executive leadership and the Board regarding material compliance risks, program performance, audits, and remediation.

Lead, develop, and appropriately scale Astra’s existing Compliance and GRC team while remaining directly involved in complex reviews, escalations, and strategic initiatives.

Oversee Payments and Bank Partner Compliance

Serve as the senior compliance point of contact for Astra’s sponsor-bank partners, supporting ongoing oversight, due diligence, audits, inquiries, and program governance.

Oversee compliance with applicable ACH/NACHA, card-network, RTP, FedNow, and other payment-rail requirements.

Evaluate new products, payment flows, customers, partnerships, and markets to identify compliance requirements and establish appropriate controls before launch.

Partner with outside counsel to evaluate regulatory developments and potential licensing or registration requirements arising from changes to Astra’s products or operating model.

Partner cross-functionally to build and enhance fraud controls across Astra’s payment flows, including monitoring rules, transaction limits, and escalation processes.

Own the governance and continued maturity of Astra’s SOC 2 and PCI DSS programs, including scoping, control ownership, audit readiness, auditor coordination, findings management, and annual assessments.

Oversee Astra’s readiness for BSA, NACHA, sponsor-bank, customer, SOC 2, PCI DSS, and other applicable audits and assessments.

Maintain an enterprise risk and controls framework that connects compliance obligations, risks, controls, testing, evidence, and remediation.

Lead Astra’s privacy compliance program, including applicable GDPR and U.S. privacy requirements, data-subject requests, retention, privacy notices, and reviews of new products, data uses, and vendors.

Oversee third-party compliance risk, customer assurance activities, and compliance-related due-diligence responses.

Advise Product, Engineering, Sales, and Integrations on compliance requirements for new products, payment flows, and customer use cases, partnering with relevant teams to implement effective, scalable controls.

Manage third-party compliance vendors, including KYC/KYB/sanctions screening providers.

8+ years of compliance experience in fintech, payments, banking, or financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Prior experience leading a BSA/AML compliance program at a financial institution, payments company, or fintech, ideally within a sponsor-bank or bank-fintech partnership model.

Experience overseeing multiple compliance and assurance programs, including BSA/AML, fraud, privacy, SOC 2, PCI DSS, or payment-network compliance.

Deep, practical expertise in BSA/AML, OFAC, KYC/KYB, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, suspicious-activity escalation, and financial-crimes risk management.

Familiarity with the intricacies of specific payment rails, specifically: ACH, RTP, and debit networks.

Hands-on experience building or scaling compliance programs at a startup or high-growth company — you've done this before, and you know how to right-size controls for where a company actually is.

Experience managing sponsor bank relationships and navigating bank program compliance requirements.

Demonstrated experience leading and developing a compliance team while remaining closely involved in program execution.

Ability and willingness to travel up to ~15% annually.

Bachelor's degree required; JD, MBA, or advanced degree in a relevant field strongly preferred.

Candidates without an advanced degree but with exceptional track records and relevant certifications will be fully considered — we care about what you've done, not just where you studied.

CAMS, CRCM, CFE, or equivalent preferred.

Familiarity with modern compliance and financial crimes tooling — platforms like Alloy, Sardine, Unit21, Socure, or ComplyAdvantage — and the ability to evaluate and implement new tools as needs evolve.

Comfortable working with data: able to analyze transaction patterns, interpret monitoring outputs, and engage credibly with Engineering on how technical controls are built and tuned.

Working knowledge of API-driven payment architecture and how compliance requirements translate into product and engineering decisions.

Understanding of instant payment rails including Visa Direct, card-to-card transfers, ACH/NACHA, RTP, and FedNow.

Experience at a BaaS company or payments platform managing sponsor bank program obligations and audit readiness.

Experience supporting complex or emerging payment use cases, such as cross-border payments, crypto, payroll, lending, or other embedded-finance products.

Prior experience presenting compliance strategy to a founding team, board, or investors.

Astra’s product promise—fast, secure transfers across multiple payment rails—is possible because of the trust we have built with our banking partners, payment networks, customers, and users. Compliance is not a secondary function within that model; it is part of Astra’s operating infrastructure.

As Astra scales, the complexity of our products, partnerships, data practices, and control environment will grow with us. The Head of Compliance will shape how Astra manages that complexity—strengthening our financial-crimes controls, maintaining strong bank partnerships, overseeing critical audit and assurance frameworks, advancing our privacy program, and helping the company launch new products responsibly.

This is an opportunity to lead an established program and talented team through their next stage of maturity while having a direct and visible impact on Astra’s growth.
