Agility Robotics is scaling production of Digit over the coming years. Reliable, repeatable calibration of every robot -- across perception sensors and kinematics -- is foundational to that scale. The Sr. Staff Software Engineer - Calibration is responsible for Agility's calibration capability end to end.

This is a player-coach role. The successful candidate will personally design, build, and deliver the calibration systems used in production, leveraging existing vendors, components, and systems. The candidate will also identify and develop other engineers contributing to calibration work, and will help shape the long-term technical direction of calibration at Agility.

The role demands strong conceptual depth combined with pragmatic, tried-and-true implementation. Calibration at Agility is a practical engineering discipline grounded in real-world production environments. The successful candidate will operate with broad technical autonomy, set the bar for calibration accuracy and repeatability, and produce outputs that flow into downstream manufacturing processes. Cross-functional overlap with sensor vendors, contract manufacturers, and internal hardware, controls, and perception teams is inherent to the role.

Design, implement, and deliver calibration systems end to end, including algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, data pipelines, validation, and operator workflow.

Own calibration across perception sensors (RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, and other modalities) and kinematic calibration of the robot, including joint approaches that couple sensor extrinsics with arm and whole-body kinematics.

Establish the data and metrics infrastructure underpinning calibration, including per-unit records, accuracy and drift metrics, traceability, and fleet-level monitoring.

Own the delivery of calibration fixture software, including operator-facing applications on Linux.

Own the delivery of in-field self-check and recalibration capabilities to maintain calibration validity through Digit's service life.

Define the requirements that calibration outputs place on downstream manufacturing processes, including cycle time, repeatability, data capture, and operator workflow.

Coordinate with sensor vendors and contract manufacturers on the deployment of calibration processes at their facilities, including process documentation, operator training, and acceptance criteria.

Identify, hire, mentor, and develop other engineers contributing to calibration work.

10+ years of practical experience calibrating complex robotic or sensor-rich systems in real production environments.

Track record of designing and delivering calibration systems end to end, including algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, validation, and operator workflow.

Deep expertise across multiple sensor modalities (RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, IMUs, encoders, etc), with working command of kinematic calibration and the coupling of sensor extrinsics to kinematics.

Demonstrated understanding of what production calibration requires: repeatability, data collection, simplicity, and throughput.

Experience building the data and metrics infrastructure that supports calibration at scale.

Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.

Player-coach orientation: capable of executing the technical work directly, while also identifying and developing the talent that contributes to it.

Effective collaboration across multiple stakeholders, including hardware, controls, perception, sensor vendors, and contract manufacturers.

Hands-on engineering practice, comfortable in the lab and on the production floor.

Owned calibration end to end at an autonomous vehicle company, mobile robotics company (humanoid, quadruped, or other dynamically stable robot), or other hardware organization deploying sensor-rich systems at scale.

Experience with in-field calibration validation and recalibration on deployed fleets.

Background in metrology, optical alignment, or geometric computer vision.

Built the data infrastructure side of production calibration, including traceability databases, per-unit calibration history, and fleet-wide monitoring.

Agility Robotics is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for Calibration to design and deliver end-to-end calibration systems for humanoid robots. This player-coach role involves developing algorithms, fixtures, and data pipelines using C++ and Python to ensure precision across perception sensors and kinematics.

Senior Staff Software Engineer, Calibration

Agility Robotics builds Digit, a humanoid robot deployed into real warehouses and factories under a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. Every hour Digit operates generates telemetry, logs, sensor streams, and maintenance events — and turning that into reliability, unit economics, and product decisions is the job.

As the Lead Data Scientist, you'll define how we use data to build better robots and make better decisions. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where you'll set the technical direction for analytics and modeling while helping build a truly data-driven engineering organization.

In this newly created role, you'll transform massive volumes of complex robot data into the insights and models that drive decisions across hardware, software, manufacturing, and operations. You'll create the foundation for how we measure success, improve robot performance at scale, and prioritize what to build next — accelerating how we design, deploy, and continuously improve our autonomous systems.

Predictive maintenance & hardware reliability

. Build models that predict MTBF and remaining useful life for specific components (actuators, cameras, compute, power systems). Partner with hardware engineering to model wear-and-tear under varying duty cycles, payloads, and environmental conditions, and turn those models into maintenance schedules and design feedback.

. Analyze telemetry and logs to find which software versions, site conditions, or usage patterns correlate with the highest failure and intervention rates. Work with Product to define the "golden signals" of a RaaS deployment and stand up the dashboards behind each. Quantify the cost of human intervention (teleop, on-site support, manual recovery) and its drivers.

. Build detection and RCA tooling that surfaces anomalies in fleet behavior early and helps engineers get from symptom to cause faster.

. Join end-of-line test data with field performance to find which manufacturing signals predict early field failures, and close the loop back to the factory to catch defects before they ship

 — a framework for safely rolling out software/firmware changes across a physical fleet and measuring impact on performance, reliability, and intervention cost.

 — partnering with embedded/software teams to define what gets logged and at what fidelity, so the data needed for these models exists in the first place.

 — models that inform fleet sizing, spares/inventory, and the economics of new site rollouts.

Beyond the original charter, you may also help shape:

10+ years applying data science / statistical modeling to real-world problems, with a track record of owning ambiguous, high-impact problems end to end.

Deep expertise in some combination of: reliability/survival analysis, time-series and anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and causal/observational inference.

Strong software fundamentals — production-quality Python, comfort in SQL and modern data stacks.

3+ years serving as a technical lead or the senior-most IC on cross-functional efforts, with a track record of setting technical direction for a team of data scientists/analysts, mentoring and growing ICs, and driving alignment across engineering and business stakeholders without formal authority

Fluency partnering cross-functionally with hardware, embedded/software, manufacturing, and business/finance stakeholders, and translating analysis into decisions they trust.

Experience working with large-scale, messy, multi-modal operational data (sensor/telemetry, logs, event streams) and the judgment to know when the data can and can't support a conclusion.

Prior work in robotics, autonomous systems, hardware, IoT/connected devices, industrial, or manufacturing settings.

Familiarity with fleet operations, RaaS/subscription unit economics, or SRE-style operational metrics.

Exposure to manufacturing quality systems (end-of-line test, SPC, yield/defect analytics).

Agility Robotics is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to define the technical direction for analytics and modeling of humanoid robot telemetry. The role focuses on predictive maintenance, fleet performance, and root-cause anomaly detection using Python and SQL to improve robot reliability and RaaS unit economics.
